Title: Support Intelligent Films: See "The Illusionist"
A Pair of Glowing, Yellow Eyes - September 7, 2006 09:23 PM (GMT)
Holy Jesus-Gravy, this movie was good. Amazingly well acted, beautifully filmed, wonderfully scripted, and with an ending pulled off so well I couldn't help but smile wide. Though the movie is somewhat depressing for most of it, the ending will make you want to jump into the air and click your heels.
We need more of this, more intelligent films. While I still want to see Accepted and Snakes on a Plane, I don't expect either to stimulate my mind or to be presented with the elegance and grace that The Illusionist was. Only a few films a year, if there are any at all, present themselves in such a fashion. The trend in Hollywood lately seems to be to crank out stupid bullshit as fast a possible, to make a quick buck. While I enjoy some of the less artful films quite a bit, they're drowning out masterpieces like this.
So, my friends, this is a thread to discuss both the illusionist, and artful films, and how there should be more of them.

Snakes made me think I could land a plane. .. I qwon't give away the endding but it's hilarious.
Anyhoo, I want to see but might not get a chance to now. (School will get in the way)
I would highly recommend, "Memento", that was one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's got some of the best acting I've seen, plus it's presented in a unqie never before done way. They start at the end and slowly go back to the begining. There's reasoning for that, but in order to fully appreciate it, you should see it yourself.
Another good one I saw was "Abre los Ojos", yeah it's a spanish film but it was also pretty good. Sadly, they made an american version of it that completely sucked. It was no where near as good as the orignal. . .the lesson there, never let Tom Cruise do a movie that's meant to be thoughtful. . .. or impacting. . .just don't let him act in general. (He was good in War of the worlds though)

I work in a movie theatre. I've seen the ending to SoaP about... fourty times? XD

Damnit! I wish I worked in a movie theatre, I just have a shit load of odd jobs.

(yes I know double post)
This isn't about Snakes though, it's about intelligent films.
What I'd recommend:
Memento
Abre Los Ojos
And that's all that pop into my mind at the moment, I never saw the american version of Abre Los Ojos, but I heard it was real bad. You might of seen it, "Vanilla Sky". Or from what I hear it's the american version of it.

Im hoping to get into a film school ,so im always up to a new movie.....Unless it was made by the Wayan Bros..........

You should have seen what we did to the cardboard cutout of the Wayans (for Little Man) at the theatre.
We took it into the back room, decapitated them with brooms, stabbed both their eyes out and hung the heads on coat hooks in there. Then I took a knife and carved PWNED into one of their faces.
...I don't like the Wayans.
At any rate, the inspector in the movie reminds me of the inspector from V for Vendetta as he slowly pieces everything togeather.
Seriously, go see it.
Mexican Standoff - September 8, 2006 12:21 AM (GMT)
Lol, now if only someone would do that to the real Wayans, i will see it.
NaotaInko - September 8, 2006 01:42 AM (GMT)
How many Wayans are there anyway? 3? I know I hate at least 1 of them. . .forgot which one now.
That would be a pretty big seller in the movies. XD
A Pair of Glowing, Yellow Eyes - September 8, 2006 02:09 AM (GMT)
Two, actually.
The stupid one, and the other stupid one.
NaotaInko - September 8, 2006 02:36 AM (GMT)
Could of sworn there were three of them, the actual good one, and the stupid ones. (although one of the stupid guys was in Scary Movie and it wasn't that bad. . .but they made White Chicks. . .and Little Man. . .so yeah they still deserve to have that happen)
Sathe - September 8, 2006 04:13 AM (GMT)
Dude man, that cutout was awesome. You totally couldn't stab it.
"Nobody Knows" was a very good movie. Very sad, but very intelligent.
I'll have to see "The Illusionist".
