I thought the show was great. It's by far one of my favorite animes. It had great characters and an awesome story. I loved how they transfered from funny to dark and depressing as the series went on. The transition was very smooth too. I almost felt like I could relate with Shinji's character which bougth me a little bit deeper into the show.
Sathe - September 22, 2005 08:31 PM (GMT)
I've only seen a couple of episodes, but I liked what I saw. I want to see more, but I just don't have the time or the resources.
Yuffie - September 23, 2005 03:38 PM (GMT)
I'm getting it soon! ^-^ I can't wait. o_o; it looks so cool. Dx;

Of course I have to see the movies again...
Most of it didn't make alot of sense to me, when I saw it I was like.... 11.
Liminality - September 26, 2005 07:56 AM (GMT)
my friend loves this anime, but i never finished it :P
Len're - September 27, 2005 01:03 AM (GMT)
I got both the movies, 1 director cut, and one of those remade ones... XD
I saw the whole series when I was around 11 too... Asuka's cool, Rei's cool with her wings in EoE... Hate Gendo though, the manipulative bastard... <_< And Shinji's cute and Kaworu/Kaoru's cool!!! I won't go into a long paragraph about everything in it, so I'll just shut my mouth. :P
animefreak - October 29, 2005 11:46 AM (GMT)

Uchiha Itachi - December 21, 2005 10:27 PM (GMT)
Neon Genesis Evangelion is an awesome anime, I got to say one of the best anime I have seen. For those of you who havent seen it I recommend it, if you got Bittorrent here is a good site to download NGE.

I love that anime. I bought the platinum volume, $39.99 but theres 25 episodes, and a lot of behind the scenes footage.
Thome - April 6, 2006 09:51 PM (GMT)
Well, eva is awesome.
But in order to truely like it you have to understand it.
In other words open your mind to the deep philisophical containts that so blantently arise whilst contervating eva.
but eva is my favorite anime ever.
Steel270 - April 7, 2006 01:14 PM (GMT)
My friend loaned me the whole series plus movies and it was awsome..at the end I went blank because there was too much happening that made little sense, but still it was awsome.

Mass Murder the world?
You wern't paying enough attention.
Everyone turned into LCL, but at no point in time did they stop exsisting. Instrumentality is the re-difinition of the human race.
Everything goes down to nothing, then starts again.
People were being saved from death if anything, but no one died.
And Rei was a clone of Adam who was merged with Lilith in order to present the new Holy Genesis of Re-Instrumentality upon the world. All of it happened because Rei bonded with Lilith while containing adam, even if it was against the will of NERV and SEELE it still had the same effect they were hoping for, just a different means of obtaining it.
Does that answer you're questions?
Steel270 - April 7, 2006 08:39 PM (GMT)
OK I guess that makes sense, so the decision Shinji had to make they was either to start over or keep the same? Sorry I couldn,t tell if she was killing them off after they saw what seemed to be like some type of desire or hope to see again.
I think I got my info semi-right.
Thome - April 7, 2006 08:47 PM (GMT)
Shinji's choices were revolistic.
His own insecurities were the ones making the choices, he was nothing but a puppet through the majority of the series. At the end he had the chance to become something for himself and leave his pain, anger, and above all his lonelyness behind, so he took it. He ended up sitting on the bleach at the very end as the last person in the world. Now instead of pain and lonelyness he had discomfort and a "disgusting" exsistance that made being human seem rehtorical.
Shinji's decision was a hard one that was already predictated for him. As to wether he made the right choice or not is all dependent on your own interrpretation.
So basicly "yes," the choice was wether to stay human or become LCL. And he was soley the one to choose humanity over evolution. And for his decision he became the utter reality that is the aftermath of humanity. Or at least, that's the way I look at it. But you can interrpret it any way you'd like.

Are you talking about the show or movie? I don't rmember that endding, and your reasons behind his choice I agree with for the most part, but I don't think Shinji was alone *if it's the movie you're talking about* Asuka was there as well, she survived Instrumentallity too *and if someone can tell me how to do the spolier stuff if anyone knows that'd be helpful* But if you're talking about the show, didn't everyone congradulate him on his choice to live on, for humanity to continue?
Or do you mean how Asuka, Misato and Rei had refused to accept humanity in the last episodes? *if I remember correctly, it's been a while since I saw the last episodes of it*
And what's with everyone liking Rei so much? I hated her, yes she had development, but for the most part felt like a 2 dimensional character, even though she was important to the show.
Anyway I greatly enjoyed the show, one of my favorite animes, great character development, psychological factor, etc. etc. etc., always love dicussing this one. Might start a topic later discussing the show *since this one is just about your opinion of the show after all*
Thome - April 26, 2006 03:03 AM (GMT)
I couldn't disagree with you more! (and it was the moive)
"Asuka was there as well, she survived Instrumentallity too"
Nope, that was just Shinji's recolection of Asuka. She really did die fighting the nine mass production evas.
"But if you're talking about the show, didn't everyone congradulate him on his choice to live on, for humanity to continue? "
Nope, that was all in Shinji's head. He wanted to be praised. So he imagened everyone standing around him and praising him.
And there were three reis.
NaotaInko - April 26, 2006 03:19 AM (GMT)
Hmm, that's one way to view it I guess, I can see that working, but I have other theroies on the show *can't talk about it now, I gotta go to sleep, big test tomorrow, and I remember there being three Rei's dies 3 times which is why she doesn't rmember why Shinji was happy to see her, shes the dummy plug and the other stuff about being Lillith, i just never liked her, liked shinji and asuka a lot more*
NaotaInko - April 26, 2006 11:26 PM (GMT)
Why I think that was the real Asuka: Remember how when characters went through Instrumentality *and when they didn't * many of them felt like they had no reason to continue to live, they chooser to die, where as Shinji chooses to live, no matter what consequences there are or the world, or how people view him. In sense when he chooses to live on he knows he has purpose outside of being an Eva pilot, it's why he chooses to live that he survived. Asuka as well had already made the decision to live, which is one of the reasons I think she was ultimatly at the end with Shinji *other reasons that I won't touch on right now, include a therory on Adam and Eve, and something involving cruel punishment* Remember back to the, to some infamous scene where she was saying "I don't want to die" She had made the decision to live there or had shown that she had actually wanted to live, which is why she survived as well, because she chose to live, just as Shinji did.
Show/Movies Enddings: I interrpert it as what I said before Shinji finding purpose outside of his life beside being an Eva pilot, he reilized he could change his own self image and could stop hating himself, thus people would respect him more. Which is why they are there congradulating him on what he learned, so that humanity could live on. I also believe it involves how we influence our own reality through the choices we make, if we do something what will it do to affect the next day? And other things as such. Also how humans are essentially alone. Our thoughts and actions are constirced to our own realem of knowledge and we don't have ways to share them with others.
That's just a few ways I interrput it, I have a few more that I could post later.
Thome - April 27, 2006 12:13 AM (GMT)
(I do respect your interpretations on this, but I'm going to contiue argueing with you as to try and supply a fruitfull bases for this thread and so that you might learn something about eva. ^.^)
I find you views very optimistic, when eva in and of it's self was not optimistic in the least.
However no one dies, they simply turn into LCL, which is happiness in it's self.
And also your theory as a whole need much work, it can be disproven by looking at one simple key asspect: the Hedgehog's delima.
But you're trying and that's what counts, keep trying and i'll keep pointing out things that you need to work on. ^.^
NaotaInko - April 27, 2006 02:20 AM (GMT)
I agree with you on the optimistic part, but for some reason the LCL stuff still confuses me (it's been a while since I last watched NGE, so I forgot some things, was going to buy it in a month or two as to better analyis it and just enjoy it)
I've heard that term The Hedgehog's dilemma before, but I don't know what it means, could you elaborate please?
Thome - April 27, 2006 11:24 PM (GMT)
Well, I could just go into my own theories for eva. But that would take a book.
So instead i'm just going to guide you. Not into thinking the same thing as me nessisarily, but just into getting some good eva theories that hold water. Everyone has their own, but (no offense at all) yours need some work.
(sorry if this post sounded mean, but let me assure you that it was in no way ment to be snobbish or in the sense of me talking down to you.)
blue_impulse - May 1, 2006 10:37 AM (GMT)
its a cool Anime
NaotaInko - May 2, 2006 03:48 PM (GMT)
None taken, but could you at the least explain the Hedgehogs Dilema? That way I could look at it a little better?
Thome - May 2, 2006 10:34 PM (GMT)
Well this is something you have to understand you're self.
It's not easy to explain a thought process, but just think useing the basis that if two things that like each other get too close they hurt each other.
It's all a philosophy.
blue_impulse - May 3, 2006 06:10 AM (GMT)
I have seen Neon Genesis Evagngelion and the movie and it haves a really good storyline.
When the anime first came out but I couldn't understand Shinji that much.
NaotaInko - May 3, 2006 03:36 PM (GMT)
Well, that is Shinji's behavoir, he's too scared to get close to someone because he fears rejection from that person, but how would that affect him accepting himself or Asuka being there? Maybe I'll just wait till I buy Eva in a month and examine it better , before I post more theories on it.
Thome - May 3, 2006 08:39 PM (GMT)
That same principle can be applied to just about anything.
^.^
blue_impulse - May 4, 2006 06:40 AM (GMT)
I understand Shinji alot better now
Thank you :good:
Thome - May 4, 2006 10:51 PM (GMT)
Well, there is a heck of a lot of different things to try and understand when it comes to eva. : P
blue_impulse - May 5, 2006 12:33 PM (GMT)
I see...... I'll try to understand eva abit more :P
Thome - May 6, 2006 05:04 PM (GMT)
You can't just try and understand something.
Re-watch the last two eps. and try to make self-based intruprretations.
The only way you can every really understand it is trying to figure out what the heck is going on without having anyone tell you. If someone tells you, you won't really understand it. You have to find most of eva out for you're self.
And that's why I still have yet to place my eva theories on this thread. : P
blue_impulse - May 8, 2006 08:07 AM (GMT)
Okay I'll watch the last two eps of eva.
Thome - May 8, 2006 09:20 PM (GMT)
yeah, watch them. And while their symbolistic ideals are still in your head post all you can about them in this topic.
That is the best way to make progress while analysing anything.
blue_impulse - May 9, 2006 01:01 AM (GMT)
Okay I will but first I have to get some the eva dvds back that my friend borrowed, so it mite take a while.
Thome - May 9, 2006 11:27 PM (GMT)
That's fine.
I'm going to be mean to you untill then, i'm sorry to say.
Because eva is by far my favorite anime. I would kill for Anno and his crazyness.
And due to my obsession with eva I can't help but wish for you to watch and understand it.
But untill then, sup?
NaotaInko - May 10, 2006 01:42 AM (GMT)
If you want to be as crazy as Anno *who was just going through personal problems during the making of the anime, or so rumors say* all you need to do is create something just as interpretive, and well crazy.
blue_impulse - May 10, 2006 05:21 AM (GMT)
I got the Eva dvds back.
I'll watch the last two eps of Eva.
Does anyone got any good Eva pictures I can use on photoshop?
Thome - May 10, 2006 08:36 PM (GMT)
Yeah, there are plenty of those.
Talk to me on msn and I'll give them to you that way.
^.^
