Title: First day of high school

Fyni - September 7, 2005 07:49 PM (GMT)
Did anyone else just start high school this year grade 9 or some of you maybe went to junior high. I thought it would be alot diffrent the elementry but its really the same thing exept the lunch is only 45 mins which sucks :( but you can go anywhere and do anything but i having 4 teachers seems wierd. All we did in each class is talk about the rules and what were guna do in the classes tomoro probly comes the work  anyways what was everyone elses first day of high school like even if it wasnt this year

qiangy-chan - September 7, 2005 08:44 PM (GMT)
im going to 9th grade also...

and i dunno what time it starts...........

Fayt - September 7, 2005 09:36 PM (GMT)
...only 45 minutes...?

Mines way shorter now. 10-30 minutes. They let us go anytime they feel like it.

Sathe - September 7, 2005 10:14 PM (GMT)
Don't underestimate the work, though. I did. The first semester was easy enough, but the second really got me. I could just slide by before, and I had to think, but not study. If you don't study much now, start working on it. I know I sound like a teacher, but it's true. Don't be lazy! I am, and look at me! I'm a failure!!

And for some reason I thought you were older. o.o

Fyni - September 7, 2005 10:39 PM (GMT)
how old did you think i was? :) but 10-30 mins lunch?? that dum it takes me about 5 mins to get my lunch or walk to my house. But mines opposite first semester is a pain math, geography, english and tech. tech isnt bad but my geography teacher is a asshole we were about 2 mins late on our first day cuz we dont have a bell in the portables and he went crazy :weird: but 2nd is french, religion, gym, and science how easy can that be not that french is easy just aslong as i got a 50. :)

Sathe - September 7, 2005 10:54 PM (GMT)
I was thinking you were maybe a year ahead of me... Or something like that.

Your school works differently than ours. ^^ First semester of freshman year, you've got to take English 9, Physical Sciences or Biology, Geometry or Algebra, and Civics or Geography. Then you get 3 electives. I had...Theater, French 2, and Computer App.

Second semester, you have to continue in English 9 (year-long class), Physical Sciences or Biology (both year-long classes), and Geometry or Algebra (also year-long). If you took Geography first semester, then you take Civics second, and vica versa. 3 electives again. Languages are year-long, the other two are just semester-long... Unless you had quarter-classes, of course. I had FCS and P.E.

To graduate, you have to have at least two consecutive years of the same language, three (I think) applied arts and three (I think) fine arts. Also required are Oral Comm (I've got it this semester), Career Ed (also this semester), and stuff like that...

Wow that was long. My school is kinda confusing... That's the first time I've explained it, and it just makes it seem more confusing when I try to type it out... @_@

Fyni - September 7, 2005 11:03 PM (GMT)
3 electives? that awsome i only had 1 and i could only pick from art and tech and some other one that sucks :) and we dont have like geometry in grade 9 we just have "math" which covers everything but in grade 11 and 12 it gets so comfusing like my bro is taking calculus? which is some kind of crazy math. Basicly grade 9 i had to take english, math, geograpgy, religion, french, gym and science no matter what :(

Sathe - September 7, 2005 11:08 PM (GMT)
Yeah. Except.... This year I have books in 5/7 of my classes and I have another one coming... Plus two big binders, notebooks for every class, a workbook, and a bunch of junk... I can't fit it all in my locker. I have to spill over onto my friend's part... I even have a book for Oral Comm!

Urameshi - September 7, 2005 11:16 PM (GMT)
i kinda remember my first day, we only had 4 classes. first day we talked about rules and homework things. Our lunch was 30 min, so 10 of eating and 20 min of beating people in basketball. In the first year everyone seemed so big but nothing happened to me beacuse i knew people there. To say high school was so much fun, hope it goes will for you.

Fyni - September 7, 2005 11:37 PM (GMT)
ya thats the good thing about having a bro in grade 12 and knowing all his friends noone will do anything to you. Since my bro is like one of the main wrestling guys and wrestling is like my schools football :) we dont have football :(. But i got a binder with a load of paper in each for each class then just a pencil case, pencil crayers, math set and a ruler not to much but what pissed me off is on top of my locker is slanted and i put my books up there and well you can see where this is going :(

Sathe - September 7, 2005 11:40 PM (GMT)
Hehe. My brother is a senior. But he's kinda...well..really... a loser. So it's not as much of an advantage. I don't mind him, though, as long as he showers. =)

Coconaught - September 7, 2005 11:48 PM (GMT)
I'm a senior and I'm a loser too!

Sathe - September 8, 2005 12:39 AM (GMT)
Not like my brother... You're actually a cool person, online at least. Dunno 'bout elsewhere. Ed... He's a tard.

Fyni - September 8, 2005 01:06 AM (GMT)
Is he like one of those guys that trys to act all tuff and is normly a gino or something. they piss me off so much these 3 ginos in grade 10 last year challenegd my bro to a fight when my bro was in grade 11 he said ok and they were like uh well were to good for you we dont wante to waste are time with you. -_- i can already tell theres some gr 9s like that in my classes

Sathe - September 8, 2005 02:33 AM (GMT)
Nah, he's just a loser. Few friends, most of them reek. He doesn't wash himself near often enough and he wears socks with velcro sandals and jeans that are too short. He puts his hands in his front pockets while he walks and he's had the same backpack (with the same trash in it) for around 5 years. He hasn't gotten new shoes in forever, and he doesn't like to wear clean clothes. He stinks up the entire basement. It doesn't help that there are no windows in his room and he keeps the door closed a lot of the time... When he opens it, run. I don't think he knows what 'shampoo' is. He wheezes sometimes and he likes to eat swiss cheese by the block. He chews with his mouth open and makes weird grunting noises when he eats. He never does any homework, always fails, but doesn't care in the least. He seems to think that his mommy will cook and clean for him forever, even though he's a senior this year. He wants to be a librarian. He's grown up his entire life being told he's smart, even though he doesn't do any work. He gets okay grades on tests... Well, he used to. I guess this made him think that since he's smart, nothing really matters, it'll all work out. Soon he'll be in college and still an immature little boy who doesn't know anything about anything.

Not all of these things are so bad, alone... But when combined... You get Ed. I'd probably be down if he died, but sometimes I just wish he'd get it together and bathe for once. (Yes, that's how I measure how much I care about someone. I spend about 5 minutes imagining what it'd be like if they died. I'm good at that sort of thing.)

Coconaught - September 8, 2005 03:03 AM (GMT)
...so how long is this list of all the bad habits that your bro has? and how long have you been keeping it?

crapshack - September 8, 2005 03:37 AM (GMT)
I thought you were older too, Fyni.

But I can't relate to you. Even though I started High school last year, I've been going to the same school for two years.

High school isn't that bad. You just gotta try to do well with your grades since they officially count now.

Sathe, you get three electives? I only got one for eighth grade and that was language. And I got another for this year for Physics. ANd I think I get another one for next year.

Your schools are so different from mine. Lucky. <_<

To graduate at my school, you have to pass English, Math, 4 years of Latin, 4 years of a Language and I think there's more.

Liminality - September 8, 2005 07:45 AM (GMT)
wow.. schools here are SO different :P i cant even start to talk about how it works here.. maybe i will sometime when i'm bored lol.

Sathe - September 8, 2005 12:19 PM (GMT)
I'm interested. :D

crapshack, you get Latin? That's cool... Only one of our schools offers Latin, I think, and only one offers Japanese, and only one offers Chinese... None of those are mine.

Coconaught - September 8, 2005 12:37 PM (GMT)
my school offers latin...but not japanese or chinese...just german, spanish, and latin

Fyni - September 8, 2005 07:41 PM (GMT)
4 years of second language? thats alot all we have to do is 1 credit in second language and you have to take french is grade 9 which sucks :( but if you really want to you can take spanish and german and some other one i think in high grades.

crapshack - September 8, 2005 07:55 PM (GMT)
Yep, it's four years of Latin. It's mandatory since the name of my school has Latin in it. IT's been like that since 163-something. It isn't so bad, depends on how your teachers go for the year. If you think you've got tough teachers, then I feel for you.

Fyni - September 8, 2005 10:40 PM (GMT)
1600s? i didnt know school really existed back then =/ but i think religion and second languages are such a waste of a class i could be learning and getting a credit for something i actually need. they should be a choice

crapshack - September 8, 2005 10:54 PM (GMT)
I don't like talking about my school because it sucks. A whole lot. It's a prep school for Harvard because it was the first school built in America or something, but that's all I'm saying. It sucks. Just because of the people.

But there should be a choice. At my school, we can pick all our classes for senior year. But there are AP and honor classes also. Like Economics and Physics and chemistry and all that jazz.

Sathe - September 8, 2005 11:30 PM (GMT)
Guh, no way I'm taking AP this year... I was going to take AP World History, but I just don't think I can this year... Disappointed in myself, but whatever.

Fyni - September 8, 2005 11:33 PM (GMT)
do you guys have applied and acedemic then in 11 and 12 college, college/university and unvivestity levels ?

crapshack - September 8, 2005 11:42 PM (GMT)
I didn't catch that.

Fyni - September 9, 2005 12:28 AM (GMT)
Like the type of courses acedemic is the highest like for university and applied for college then there essential.

But with grade 11 and 12 you can take University, Universtity/College, university and workplace. Its diffrent levels

Liminality - September 9, 2005 07:12 AM (GMT)
lol ok schools here work like this-

primary school is from kindergarten to year 6. high school, or secondary college, is from year 7 to 12. after that is university, or the equivalent of college in the US i think?

anyways in high school, year 7-10 is junior, 11-12 is senior. im in year 11 right now. when in year 7 and 8, depending on what school you go to, the subjects you do are usually-
science, maths, english, geography, history, PDHPE, music, language (usually french, german or japanese), and different schools have different stuff like food tech or metalwork etc etc.

then when you go into year 9, (along with your compulsory subjects - maths, english, science, PDHPE, history geography) you choose 2 or 3 electives from about 20, and this is stuff like commerce, a specific language, drama, IT, music, etc etc.

then when you go into year 11 you choose EVERYTHING except for english. english is the only compulsory subject. you have to have a minimum of 12 units in year 11 and 10 units in year 12. most subjects are 2 units, but a few, 5 or 6 subjects, offer extension courses, extension one or extension one AND two, and every extension is 1 unit. extension 2 is not allowed in year 11.

anyways... im doing 12 units this year and it looks like this-
english, english extension 1, maths + extension 1, chemistry, physics and music. thats 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 2 which is 12.
next year im doing 12 units still - im picking up extension 2 maths and dropping to english 2unit.

..i doubt anyone read all of that, i would be bored and stop once i got to the second line lol. but if you did read all of that then ask me if you have any questions :D

Len're - September 9, 2005 10:10 AM (GMT)
o.o I get the grades and compulsary stuff, but after all of that was a blur for me. o.o On my first day of HS I had to do [in this order{can you tell I'm pretty bored as well?}] Double Maths, double D&T[we had to do stupid wooodwork for the semester..], double Geography, 1 period of something, then Language/Japanese...

I guess it's okay... I'm just rambling now... I bet I could say our whole weekly timetable if I stooped to that level...

Liminality - September 10, 2005 06:52 AM (GMT)
you started off your first day in HS with double maths? ..ouch :P

Len're - September 10, 2005 07:09 AM (GMT)
Yeah, and I'm not the best with Maths. The only person who I know is reallly good at Maths is one of my best friends. But at least I had Language to look forward to at the end. :P

Liminality - September 10, 2005 07:50 AM (GMT)
o well, my timetable looks like this- next monday i have chemistry, double physics, double maths, music, english.. sigh

Len're - September 10, 2005 09:01 AM (GMT)
Do you have the same everyday? Cuz my school certainly don't...

And I remember on my first day I to wear [along with a realllly comfortable top] a skirt, cuz I usually wear pants to school now... XD

Fyni - September 10, 2005 07:37 PM (GMT)
you gota wear uniforms to? i dont mind them mine are pretty comfy just a white golf shirt and navy blue pants. there expensive tho. but i dont get the girls can wear the shirts, pants, sweats, blouses, skirts and all that but guys can only wear pants tshirt and sweater. One guy came with a skirt once lol cause he thought it was stupid that girls can wear anything but guys cant. i dont care but it was funny

Liminality - September 11, 2005 12:16 AM (GMT)
yeah most schools have school uniform.. and of course we dont have the same thing every day XD

Fyni - September 11, 2005 01:06 AM (GMT)
is it just catholic schools or private? that have uniforms never seen a public with uniforms

Len're - September 11, 2005 02:37 AM (GMT)
Most schools here have uniforms... not sure about the private schools though...

Jarrid - September 11, 2005 02:58 AM (GMT)
Im in uniform... Catholic skool

it suxorz rofl

Skool pwN!

Liminality - September 11, 2005 04:04 AM (GMT)
private schools DEFINITELY have uniforms, it's part of why theyre 'private'. everything is strict and up to standard etc :P yeah most schools, any kind of schools, have uniforms here.
