Title: Shojo?
Sathe - September 3, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
It seems like people on here are mostly into boys', though there are some shojo hits. I think it's fun to read, with all the drama... It's sorta shameful to admit, but it's very entertaining.
I recently subsribed to Shojo Beat, which is just dripping with drama. I'll have get some backissues, though, because they're already out with Issue 3.
Anyway, how does everyone else feel about shojo? Any other subscribers?

Love Hina isn't exactly shojo. ^^; Like, some examples... Marmalade Boy is popular... Absolute Boyfriend... Kill Me, Kiss Me... Sensing a theme here? Fushigi Yuugi is immensely popular.... Stuff like that. If you look at the style of art from those I mentioned, that's also a common characteristic of shojo. Huge eyes with sparkles and lots of detail, everyone (male and female) with full eyelashes, men who look like women, and lots of dreamy backgrounds and closeups.

I've never heard of Shojo, but from what you've said, I know I'm going to like it. I love dramas.

Most are so very cheesy, and they're so saturated with drama it's sickening, but many girls have a morbid taste for tragedy and drama...it seems.

Japanese people like a lot of morbid things. Especially horror movies.

What are the names of some of the mangas?
Sathe - September 11, 2005 06:27 PM (GMT)
Well, it's like a whole genre so it depends on what you like... In Shojo Beat, there's Nana, Absolute Boyfriend, Baby and Me, Godchild, Crimson Hero, and Kaze Hikaru. Then there's Ultra Maniac, Girl Got Game, blah blah blah I can't think of any other good ones off the top of my head... Oh yeah, Fushigi Yuugi is a really popular one... Oh, then Othello, which I love... Miracle Girls.. Peach Girl... MARS... etc. Most of those fall into the Shojo category, even if they're not all pure drippy drama.

Ultra Maniac is a must in the shojo department! I love that manga. I love the author. Wataru Yoshizumi. Most of her mangas are shojo. Such as Marmalade Boy, Random Walk, mint na bokura, etc.
Many magical girl manga would be considered shojo too. Like Card Captor Sakura or Maho no Star Magical Emi.
If you compare something like Card Captor Sakura to a manga like Hikaru no Go you can can see the definite difference between shojo and shounen. ^_^

My favorite would have to be Ai Yazawa, she's great. She did Nana and Paradise Kiss and the like. I love her style.
